Gardening.... My Style...

We live in USDA zone 5a in Indiana. Our home is on about 3/4 acre with mature oaks and a ravine beside and behind. Most of the gardening is more shaded with more sunny areas being corrupted by two black walnut trees. (My apologies to the forestry professor I worked for assisting with black walnut research!)

Our cottage property is 1.6 acres on the Tippecanoe River above Buffalo, Indiana and adjacent to the Boy Scout Camp. Deer are more than plentiful and there is also a "herd" of turkey you can sometimes see. The upper portion is meadow with mature trees, including river birch, oak and yes, walnuts. They hillside is typical woodland mix and then the area down by the river has a little marshy wetland, then a sandy beach and the river. A whole plethra of little ecosystems to play with! It is also a certified backyard habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.
